Adult Education
Congregation Israel has a vibrant adult education program that is integrated with resources from the surrounding community. Please call the Shul Office for details.
Future courses for the 5766/2005-2006 season include:

· Tevilat Keilim
· The Kosher Consumer
· The Eruv: Law, History, and Contemporary Application
· 5 Giants of Intellectual Jewish History
· Crash Course in Basic Judaism (in conjunction with the National Jewish Outreach Program)
· Ancient Wisdom, Modern Problems
· Classes preparing for the holidays (not only Pesach!!), and much, much more….
Most of the abovementioned courses will be taking place on Tuesday nights; however, the course on Intellectual Jewish History and the Crash Course in Basic Judaism will be scheduled differently. Please check the shul website and the shabbos bulletins for updates!
In addition, we will be continuing our regular collection of shiurim, including:
· Past the Perceptions: A Study of the Weekly Torah Portion; meets Shabbat mornings at 8:30 am in the main sanctuary. This year our primary focus will be on the commentary of Rashi.
· Beginners Talmud with Yaakov Haller- Meets Shabbat mornings at 8:00 am in my office, is currently studying Tractate Makkot, dealing with Jewish legal theory and implementation.
· Women’s Shiur with Rachel Kohn- Meets Shabbat afternoon before Mincha, on a bi-weekly schedule, to discuss assorted topics in Jewish Law, Tanach, or Jewish Philosophy. Generally meets in the shul. Times TBA each week.
· Into the Depths: Gemara B’Iyun/Advanced Talmud- Meets Sunday mornings at 9:00 am, currently learning Tractate Berachot, concerning the laws of prayer and blessings.
· Purim Unmasked: Gemara B’Kiyut/Tractate Megillah- Meets Tuesday evenings at 9:00 pm in the shul Beit Medrash. Studying laws and legends of Purim, Sanctity of the Synagogue, and laws of Torah Reading.
· DAF YOMI: A Page a Day…- Join us, and thousands all over the world, in studying a page of Gemara each day. Our Daf Yomi shiur is every weekday morning at 6:15 am, Sundays at 7:15 am, and TBA each week for Shabbat.
This year we hope to additionally institute a bi-weekly Women’s Shiur, Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am; a class for children on Shabbat afternoon before Mincha; Parent/Child Learning Melave Malkas; and more…Please stay tuned to our website, shul bulletins, and mailings for further details!!
