Welcome to Congregation Israel's website. We are a dynamic Modern Orthodox congregation which takes pride in providing a warm, friendly environment in which to appreciate the meaning of Judaism. Our Shul is committed to embracing Judaism through observance, prayer, study, and chesed.

 Leonard Bielory, M.D. & Roberta Ostrow

About Leonard Bielory, MD

Dr. Leonard Bielory is serving his second term as President of Congregation Israel of Springfield, along with co-president Roberta Ostrow. He served his first term from 2000-2002. He also served as President of Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School from 2005-2007, and has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of JKHA/RKYHS since 2007.

 Dr. Bielory has been Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for the past 25 years, and has directed the only training program in Allergy and Immunology in the State of New Jersey for the past 20 years. A staff member of Saint Barnabas Medical Center since 1985, he has successfully completed more than 50 clinical research studies in asthma and allergic disorders. He was recently awarded a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant focusing on Climate and Allergic Airway Disease.

 Dr. Bielory attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he earned his B.S. in Engineering (Fundamental Science) and a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology (1976). He earned his M.D. degree from UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School in 1980.
